It's My Birthday!
I turned 31 yesterday!
I spent the day on the plane and getting settled in here in Austin, Texas (my daughter's tennis tournament for Little Mo). I said that one of these days I'll be on a cruise somewhere on my birthday, just not this year.
Beth, a fellow knitter and friend did remember a few days before and sent me a gift certificate to Knit Picks. Yummy. I love having knitting buddies like that.
Happy birthday to all the other October babies!!!!!

Happy Birthday to ME!!!!
Happy Birth/Earthday to Me! Yep - I've reached the golden age of 30 - wow!
For my birthday so far I have had pizza (everybody's favorite) and received several individually wrapped gifts from my daughter. There was a cookbook, several pictures, a card (made by her hands), a necklace, and a pedicure nail set. I'm also treating myself to several hours of sitting and knitting - because I said so and because its my birthday. There will be no dinner tonight unless someone else does it and I will take a break from all other things, so if you want it done do it yourself. Smile.
Here are some gifts that I wouldn't mind having, so if you get the hankering...hint, hint, hint:
The African Cross Stitch Collection
| ||
It has been a rip roaring time of which I've been knitting, speaking, and teaching (about knitting, of course!)
Now that I've finished...the big secret life is getting back to normal.
Currently on the sticks I have the top down raglan done in Microspun from the Knitting Fool where you put in all your calculations, a cardigan done in KnitPick's Shine. One of these days I will be able to post pictures - we still cannot find the small one that we bought from WalMart a while back. Gosh!
Also, as if I need to add another hobby...I think that thanks to Dee, I have caught the cross stitch bug. I bought a small kit from WalMart and have begun to stithing. I can't wait to see the finished product. So far, so good though.
Happy belated birthday to another Libra, Dee!
And, happy birthday to you, Isela - of the Purling Sprite.
Trying to maintain balance...

Book Tag! (and a great surprise)
I've been tagged - again. This one is about books. I haven't seen this kind, although according to other's blogs this one has been around for a while. Here's what Yarn Over tagged me with:
1. Name five four of your favorite books.
All of J. California Cooper's books
The Spook Who Sat by the Door by Sam Greenlee
My Face Is Black Is True: Callie House & the Struggle for Ex-Slave Reparations by Mary Frances Berry
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
2. What was were the last book(s) you bought (or brought home from the library)? We are advocates of the library and we are known by name when we visit - which is on a daily basis; a very good resource. Here are some of my finds:
Marx in 90 Minutes by Paul Strathern
Wrap Style by Pam Allen & Ann Budd
How-to Hydroponics by Keith F. Roberto
3. What was were the last books you read?
The Gladiators: History's Most Deadly Sport by Fik Meijer
Marx in 90 Minutes by Paul Strathern
Sadie Shapiro's Knitting Book by Robert Kimmel Smith
4. List 5 books that have been particularly meaningful to you.
- Some Soul to Keep - J. California Cooper. I read this book during a transition of love and the loss of love, this has a lot of familiar culture that I could relate to of which put some questions and ponderances in perspective
- Beloved - Toni Morrison. My introduction to the supernatural and as they relate to some of my own roots.
- Their Eyes Were Watching God - Zora Neale Hurston. This was my 1st taste in to books of which were not geared toward being a child. I felt empowered in a "grown" way as I read this book and felt as if I would get in to trouble if my mom found out I was reading it. To me it was borderline and on the edge of being an adult and I felt as if I wanted to hide it and read it.
- The Knitter's Gift - Bernadette Murhpy. This was my 1st introduction to the obsession of knitting and realizing that there were many things dedicated just to knitting as others used it for inspiration and wisdom.
5. Name three books a book you've been dying to read but just haven't gotten around to it.
- The Twisted Sisters Sock Workbook: ... by Lynne Vogel
6. Tag five any number of people and have them fill this quiz out on their own. -
I believe I had 1 or 2 other people {of whom I've already tagged via the Comments of they're blogs}and this f#cK!(#~ Blogspirit messed up and I can't retrieve the long post that I had before...So, if you're visiting for the questions, let me know if I missed you. And, if you haven't participated, I tag you, too. Yeah. You.
